I love car design and would have loved to be a car designer. At this point in my life, I live vicariously through books such as this which can give me insight into the industry. This book is a hardback suitable for display. It provides intelligent historical perspectives into some of the most prolific and well-known automobile designers from the 1920s to almost today. Of real interest to me was enjoying the chronicling of carriage-like derivatives to the eventual post WW2 changes....fenders came in, running boards disappeared, bodies swelled over wheel wells, and then fins started to grow out of the rear.The book touches not only on American designers, such as Harvey Earl, but expands its reach world-wide to catalog designers from Italy, France Germany, Japan and other countries.There are beautiful full-page illustrations of designs and a multitude of historical photographs.The only criticism I have is somewhat of a personal choice. I wish the author had allowed commentary of the various illustrations by designers where able to do so (if they were still living).
This is an outstanding book if your are in the car design industry or if you just like cars! It covers the history of auto design, from the earliest designers right up to the present, by country. All the biggies are here: Pininfarina, Ferrari, etc. I highly recommend this book!
